MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Shenandoah University baseball team is ranked No. 22 in the nation in the week one NCBWA/D3baseball.com poll released Tuesday morning by the website.
Shenandoah, which is 5-3 on the season, has 119 points in the poll to come in comfortably ahead of No. 23 Concordia (Texas).
Marietta (Ohio) is the No. 1 team in the poll. The Pioneers, the defending national champions, have not played a game yet this season.
The Hornets have three 2012 opponents: Christopher Newport, Salisbury and Cortland (N.Y.) State, in the week one poll.
CNU is No. 4 and Salisbury No. 6 with Cortland coming in at No. 20. SU defeated the Red Dragons 4-2 in the season opener two weeks ago.
D3baseball.com is also running a poll asking fans to vote on the best team in the South Region and Shenandoah is one of the seven choices in that poll.
The Hornets are back in action on Wednesday at Bridgewater. The Eagles are currently on the cusp of being ranked in the top 25.
