Warriors top Bulldogs in girls basketball

STEPHENS CITY -- Sherando used stifling defense and leaned on Morgan Sirbaugh in the fourth period to pull out a 63-48 girls basketball win over Martinsburg (W.Va.) on Tuesday.

Sherando freshman Erin Magalis held Martinsburg standout Jasmine Hosby to only two second-half points. Sirbaugh, who finished with 30 points, had all seven field goals in the fourth period for the Warriors (15-6, 6-2 Northwestern). Sirbaugh also had 11 rebounds and five assists. Freshman Jessica Hakel had 14 points, five steals and three assists, and Courtney Reid had eight points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Warriors.

Handley 65, James Wood 40
WINCHESTER -- Kirsten Ward had 20 points to lead the Judges to a Northwestern District home win over the Colonels.

Corin Scott had 19 points, and Sadie Thomas had 15 for the Judges (13-7, 4-4 Northwestern). Whitney Dick had 10 points to lead the Colonels (9-12, 1-7 Northwestern).

Martinsburg 91, Sherando 68
STEPHENS CITY -- Donte Grantham scored a career-high 28 points, knocking down four 3-pointers as Martinsburg (W.Va.) beat Sherando 91-68 Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs' 91 points were a season-high as they hit nine 3s in all. Jalen Lewis and Jordan Robinson scored 17 points apiece for Martinsburg (16-2).

Terry Wood led Sherando (10-11) with 14 points. The Bulldogs led 48-31 at halftime.

Wilson Memorial 62, Stonewall Jackson 37
FISHERSVILLE -- The Generals managed only eight points in the first period, and couldn't recover in a loss to the Green Hornets.

Colton Harlow had 10 points to lead the Generals.
