Wildcats may be going to Bull Run

CHARLOTTESVILLE -- The Virginia High School League released the newest realignment plan for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 years. The plan would have six classifications. The plan would allow teams to play in districts that are better suited for them geographically regardless of what classification they are in.

There is only one change among area schools. Warren County would move from the Evergreen District to the Bull Run District. The Northwestern District would stay exactly the same. The Bull Run District would add Warren County and lose Manassas Park, which would move to the Evergreen. The Shenandoah District would also stay the same.
Handley, James Wood, Millbrook and Sherando would all be in Group 4-A, while Central, Skyline and Warren County would be in Group 3-A. Clarke County, Stonewall Jackson and Strasburg would be in Group 2-A.

The VHSL has not determined how the playoff system will work. Schools have until Feb. 16 to file a written request for a change from the new plan. The executive committee will meet on Feb. 27 to consider modifications.

The current model is based on numbers from Sept. 30, 2001. The Redistricting and Reclassification committee will meet in late July or early August to align the schools based on March 31, 2012 numbers. School can then appeal any assignment to the R&R committee on Sept. 11. The final plan will be presented for approval on Sept. 20 at the executive committee meeting.
