WINCHESTER -- A wild pitch by Skyline's Sarah Beamer on an intentional walk allowed the winning to score as James Wood edged the Hawks, 6-5, in Northwestern District softball action Thursday.
The Hawks rallied from a 4-0 deficit and tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the seventh with three runs. They came very close to getting a fourth run in the inning. Hannah Ritter drew a lead-off walk and Beamer followed with a double. Allison Funk hit a two-run double.
Valerie Hindley drew a walk, and Sabrie Neeb followed with an RBI double. Taylor Henry then popped out for the first out of the inning. Tara Robinson flied out to James Wood's Amanda Higgins, who then threw out Hindley at the plate to end the inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, James Wood senior Morgan Sykes singled with one out. Hayley Whitacre drew a walk, and Rachael Largent followed with a sac bunt to move Whitacre and Sykes to second and third. Skyline then elected to walk Kierstyn Peacoe, who was 3-for-3 in the game, but the first pitch was wild, allowing Syke to score the winning run.
Peacoe went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. The sophomore also struck out seven in picking up the win. Charlotte Viands went 1-for-2 with an RBI and Largent was 1-for-3 with two runs scored for the Colonels (4-5, 3-0 Northwestern).
Skyline's Lauren Moore also had a two-run single.
Jefferson 10, Millbrook 9
SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. -- The Pioneers saw a 9-7 lead in the fifth disappear as they fell to the Cougars in nondistrict action.
The Cougars tied the game at 9-9 in the bottom of the fifth, and then scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Kaitlyn Hendershot went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, a run scored and a stolen base for the Pioneers (3-6, 2-1 Northwestern). Sarah Clark was 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base, and Mandi Shillinburg went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs for Millbrook.
Warren County 17, Strasburg 2, 5 innings
STRASBURG -- The Wildcats took advantage of a bunch of errors in cruising to a nondistrict win over the Rams. The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.
Strasburg (2-3) had 11 errors in the loss.

STRASBURG -- Michelle Meszaros' two goals lifted the Hawks over the Rams in nondistrict action.
Elizabeth Creekmur scored a goal off an assist by Wendy Diaz-Sosa for the Rams (1-2, 0-1 Bull Run). Skyline outshot Strasburg 21-16.
