NEW MARKET -- Stonewall Jackson's Jared Getz had an unforgettable first start as a varsity pitcher on Thursday against Shenandoah Valley Academy.
Getz, a junior, fired a no-hitter in the Generals' 10-0 victory over the Stars. Getz was nearly perfect, allowing just a walk in the win. He struck out 11.
Getz becomes the second Stonewall Jackson pitcher this season to throw a no-hitter, as teammate Colton Harlow accomplished the feat earlier this season against Buffalo Gap. Those two no-hitters are the only two wins of the season for the 2-8 Generals.
"That's what I told them -- just throw no-hitters and we'll win every time," Stonewall Jackson coach Mike Lenox said.
Getz also had a solid day at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two stolen bases and an RBI.
Also for the Generals, Anthony Peacher was 2 for 3 with a double and scored a run, and Harlow went 1 for 3 and drew a pair of walks.
