Prep roundup: Falcons pull away in sixth for win

WOODSTOCK -- Central used a three-run sixth inning to pull away for a 7-4 Bull Run District softball victory over William Monroe on Friday.

Mikayla Viar went 2-for-4, and Caitlin Cummins went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Falcons (6-5, 3-2 Bull Run). Sydney Plum and Morgan Davis each had a double for the Falcons in the three-run sixth.

"This is the turning point hopefully for us," Central coach Marty Bundrick said. "I think this is a win that can get us over the hump."

Sherando 15, Millbrook 7

WINCHESTER -- The Warriors pounded out 18 hits en route to a Northwestern District victory over the Pioneers.

Sarah Clark went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, and Sydney Barr went 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Pioneers (5-8, 3-3 Northwestern). Megan Atlee went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Millbrook.

Fauquier 9, James Wood 0

WINCHESTER -- Fauquier's Sarah Kleinfelter threw a two-hitter to lead the Falcons past the Colonels in nondistrict action.

Morgan Sykes had a double, and Kierstyn Peacoe had a single for the Colonels (4-7, 3-1 Northwestern).

Boys soccer

Clarke County 6, Strasburg 0

STRASBURG -- Davey Hardesty had four goals and two assists to lead the Eagles to a Bull Run District win over the Rams.

Connor Shendow had a goal and an assist for the Eagles (7-0, 5-0 Bull Run). George Novakowski, Ben Marshall and Macson McGuigan had an assist each. The Eagles outshot the Rams 27-5. Tyler Henry had 19 saves.

Handley 9, Skyline 1

FRONT ROYAL -- Ismael Trejo and Eduardo Santiago had two goals and four assists each to lead the Judges past the Hawks in Northwestern District action.

Donovan Varney had two goals and an assist, and Omar Trejo had two goals for the Judges (3-4, 2-0 Northwestern). Christian Perez had a goal for Handley. Michael Davis and Tirone Young each had three saves for the Judges. Michael Williams had a goal for the Hawks. James Clatterbuck had 18 saves for Skyline.

SHENANDOAH -- Roberto Cardoso had a hat trick to lead the Generals past the Panthers in Shenandoah District action.

David Dodson had a goal and Edgar Cardoso had a goal and an assist for the Generals (7-1, 6-0 Shenandoah). Noah Dodge had a goal, and Ed Juarez had two assists for the Generals. Joe Livesay, Jonas Jacuinde and Matt McCampbell each had an assist for the Generals. Ryan Zerkel had four saves for the Generals.

Central 3, William Monroe 1

STANARDSVILLE -- Stephen Hamrick had two goals and an assist to lead the Falcons past the Dragons in Bull Run District action.

Wyatt Hitt had a goal for the Falcons (4-2-1, 2-2-1 Bull Run). Central outshot William Monroe 14-12.

Girls soccer

Clarke County 9, Strasburg 1

BERRYVILLE --Aubrey Fletcher had a hat trick to lead the Eagles past the Rams in Bull Run District action.

Courtney Butterfass had two goals, and Brittany Teasley, Brogan Jones and Emily Deem each had a goal for the Eagles. Taylor Hill had a goal and Emily Teimeyer had an assist for the Rams (2-4, 1-4 Bull Run). Clarke County outshot Strasburg 26-1. Strasburg's Anna Sparacio had 17 saves.

Kettle Run 5, Warren County 2

FRONT ROYAL -- The Wildcats started their Evergreen District season on a downer as they fell to the Cougars.

Kelsea Potts and Anne Skube each had a goal for the Wildcats (3-4, 0-1 Evergreen). Tori Graham and Kelly Martin each had an assist for the Wildcats. Kettle Run outshot Warren County, 28-10. Haley Mills had 23 saves for the Wildcats.

Fauquier 4, James Wood 1

WARRENTON -- The Colonels fell short in a nondistrict loss to the Falcons.
Dulcie Kysela had a goal, and Sarah Callaham an assist for the Colonels (3-3, 0-1 Northwestern). Fauquier outshot James Wood 12-6.
