Generals win district boys' title

Stonewall Jackson High School's boys track and field team piled up 153 points to claim Thursday's Shenandoah District meet at East Rockingham in Elkton.

The Generals' Cody Stout and Dylan Shirley led the way with two individual championships apiece. Stout won the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 3.49 seconds, and posted a first-place finish in the 1,600 with a time of 4:38.82.

Shirley captured top honors in the long jump (22-02.75) and triple jump (44-01.
John-Michael Pirtle added a district championship in the 110 hurdles (14.71) for Stonewall Jackson. The Generals' 400-meter relay team also won a district championship with a winning time of 43.73.

Riverheads finished second in the boys meet with 82 points, followed by East Rockingham with 78.

In the girls meet, Wilson Memorial tallied 147 points to win the championship. Stonewall Jackson was fifth with 49 points.

Ashton Davis picked up the only district championship in the girls meet for the Generals. Davis was first in the 400 meters with a winning time of 1:02.44.
