Prep roundup: Rutherford lifts Hawks to win

Chaz Rutherford fired seven shutout innings as visiting Skyline topped Brentsville 5-0 in non-district baseball action on Thursday.

Rutherford allowed just three hits and walked three batters while striking out 12 to improve his record to 6-1.

Rutherford also helped himself at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort that included a double and two RBIs. Jacob Sims was 1 for 1 with a two-run home run for Skyline (8-9).

Visitinig Clarke County battled to a 1-1 tie with defending Group A state champion Manassas Park on Thursday.

Davey Hardesty's goal off a Conor Shendow assist in the 47th minute put the Eagles ahead, but Manassas Park responded 11 minutes later. Allan Oliva Cruz scored the equalizer off an assist from Cristian Rivas.

The Bull Run District rivals finished all even on shots as well, with 11 apiece.
Goalkeeper Alex Sefton had seve saves for Clarke County (11-1-1, 9-1-1 Bull Run).
