Prep roundup: King fires one-hitter in Wildcats' win

Warren County senior pitcher Nicole King allowed just one hit as the host Wildcats topped Evergreen District rival Kettle Run, 1-0, in softball action Tuesday in Front Royal.
King struck out 12 batters and walked two to improve her record to 9-4 this season.
Taylor Bass led the Wildcats at the plate with a pair of singles and a stolen base.
Fauquier 10, James Wood 0, 5 innings
The visiting Colonels had to deal with another injury in their non-district loss to the Falcons.
James Wood sophomore pitcher Kierstyn Peacoe was hit by a pitch on the thumb in the top of the first inning, and did not return to the game. The Colonels are already playing without senior shortstop Morgan Sykes and sophomore catcher Hayley Whitacre due to injuries. Whitney Dick had the only hit of the game for the Colonels (7-10, 6-3 Northwestern).
Skyline 11, Handley 0
Visiting Skyline needed just five innings to knock off Handley, 11-0, in Northwestern District softball action on Tuesday.
The Hawks' Sabrie Neeb, Taylor Henry, Sarah Beamer, Tara Robinson and Valerie Hindley all had multiple-hit games and combined for eight RBIs in the victory. Carrie Robinson added three RBIs for Skyline.
Beamer pitched all five innings for the win, allowing just one hit while striking out five.
Rappahannock County 5, Strasburg 1
Visiting Rappahannock County downed host Strasburg, 5-1, in Bull Run District girls soccer action on Tuesday in Strasburg.
The Panthers outshot the Rams, 20-8.
Wendy Diaz-Sosa netted the lone goal for Strasburg (2-10, 1-9 Bull Run) off an assist from Taylor Hill.
Goalkeeper Anna Sparacio finished with 15 saves for the Rams.
Fauquier 3, James Wood 1
Homestanding James Wood lost a non-district game to Fauquier.
Sarah Callaham had the goal for the Colonels (5-6-1, 1-3-1 Northwestern).
Madison County 9, Central 2
Visiting Madison County had only seven hits to Central's eight, but still managed to cruise to the Bull Run District win.
The Falcons (7-9, 2-8 Bull Run) were led by Sean Semones, who went 2-for-4, and Jordan Rau, who was 1-for-2.
Kettle Run 4, Warren County 0
Host Warren County fell short against first-place Kettle Run in Evergreen District action.
The Wildcats (9-7, 3-2 Evergreen) managed only two hits. Frank Barrientez and Jacob Sheppard each went 1-for-3.
Handley 4, Skyline 3
Tyler Broll's two-run single in the bottom of the seventh lifted the home-standing Judges past the Hawks in Northwestern District.
Taylor Sandroni threw a four-hitter for the Judges. Brian Thomas and Jacob Rudolph each went 2-for-2 and Reagan Potts went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Handley.
James Wood 7, Fauquier 2
The Colonels pulled out a road win over the Falcons in non-district action.
Andy Kennedy went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Jordan Iden went 1-for-3 with three RBIs for the Colonels (7-9). Kyle Hevner had a triple and a run scored for the Colonels.
Strasburg 10, Rappahannock County 1
The host Rams cruised to a Bull Run District win over the Panthers.
Mark Smoot struck out 11 with only one walk in picking up the win for the Rams (10-6, 7-3 Bull Run). Tyler Doman went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, and Todd Dean was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI for the Rams. Tyler Hott went 1-for-2 with two RBIs for Strasburg.
Fauquier 3, James Wood 2
James Wood lost a close game on the road to Fauquier in non-district action.
The Colonels trailed 3-0 at halftime, but rallied back in the second half. Chandler DeHaven scored both goals, and were assisted by Mel Savarese.
