Why are athletes from Clarke, Handley, Wood, and Millbrook not on this list. Millbrook and Clarke had good years and deserve to have athlets on this list. Athletes from these schools were on the Fall and Winter Sports.

When the newspaper ownership changed hands, they dropped all those schools. They now cover Shenandoah County, Sherando, and the two schools in Warren County. But even including those schools, they favor the Shenandoah schools greatly in both player and coach of the year awards.

I must say I'm a bit confused. Off all of the schools in the area, Sherando is the only one that is covered by NV Daily? Sherando is part of the Frederick County Public Schools system just as Millbrook and James Wood. How is this fair? Handley has been around before all of these schools and they are not included? What's the deal? New ownership must not be from this area and/or obvisiously have some type of ties to Stephen City or Sherando. The correct thing would have been to include these schools for this spring since they were included in the Fall and Winter editions of the All-Area Teams. I always felt that the NV Daily did a much better job in covering sports in the area, much better than the Winchester Star, so this is kind of disappointing. If Sherando wasn't included I could understand what the NEW ownership was thinking, but I'm completely confused. Is there any explanation why Sherando was included and not the other local schools?

Simple. The more papers sold in an area the more coverage they get. Like or not.

So you are confirming that you are an official representative of the NV Daily and you have documentation that states that the city of Stephen City purchases more NV Daily newspapers than the city of Winchester? If not this still doesn't answer the main question, why is Sherando High School the only school in the Winchester/Frederick County area covered by the NV Daily now?

I believe that the area is for schools located in the southern part of the counties and for the people that follow the schools in this area (Shenandoah County,Warren County and Stephens City ) since the closeness of these school's to one another and the fact of the daily being located in Shenandoah County. Not that the daily is trying to slight any of the schools that are located toward the city of Winchester as the Winchester Star will be having their all - area team coming soon in their paper which will not include all of these schools. But i do see your point that an area should be just 1 area ,but lets not forget it is to recognize the kids.

Honestly since the newspaper is privately owned they can choose to cover whatever area they feel necessary. But there's an issue with fairness. The schools that are not included in the Spring edition were included in the Fall and Winter editions of the All-Area Team. The correct thing would have been to include the schools for the Spring edition and then inform the schools that they will no longer be included starting in the Fall of 2011.

Here's a list of those athletes that I feel could have (or should have) been included:

-Catcher Ethan Mathews, Sr., Millbrook, 1st Team All District, 1st Team All Region (Would have been an obvious choice for either 1st Team or 2nd Team NV Daily All Area.)

-OF Matt Fazenbaker, Sr., Millbrook, 1st Team All District, 2nd Team All Region (Would have gotten strong consideration for 2nd Team NV Daily All Area, but not as an obvious choice as Ethan Mathews.)

-3B Jordan Iden, Sr., James Wood, 1st Team All District, 2nd Team All Region (Would have gotten strong consideration for either 1st or 2nd Team NV Daily All Area, but not as an obvious choice as Ethan Mathews.)

-DH A.J. Eubank, Sr., James Wood, 1st Team All District, 2nd Team All Region (Would have gotten "some" consideration for 2nd Team NV Daily All Area, but not as an obvious choice.)

-Handley (Probably didn't have anyone for consideration for 1st Team, and maybe not 2nd Team.)

My opinion for these list of players is based on them being 1st Team All District and either 1st or 2nd Team All Region. But I hate to seem like I'm complaining, I still don't see how Sherando is the only Winchester/Frederick County school included. Don't get me wrong every single kid that they have on this list is well deserving and none of them would have been removed completely from the All-Area list by anyone from Millbrook, Handley, or James Wood. It just seems weird that the NV Daily considers Sherando more part of Warren and Shenandoah County than the Winchester/Frederick County area.

Is what it is. I am not a rep for the daily, that was a common sense hypothesis. If you don't think the paper serves your needs, don't buy it. Buy the Star if it covers your interest. And move along.

LOL...well I read the paper online so I don't have to buy regular paper...but back to my original comment to you "Are you confirming that you are an official representative of the NV Daily and you have documentation that states that the city of Stephen City purchases more NV Daily newspapers than the city of Winchester?"

Ahhh, and the Winchester star does not give their product out for free online like the NVD does(complaining about a service you are not even paying for???). I had to call the Daily for a business matter today and I went over some numbers with my contact. She told me 2500 papers go to Frederick Co. and that includes Winchester. As I suspected, she said the majority of those goes to Middletown/Stephens City area. Coverage follows money. Common sense not rocket science.

@howboutthehotel? - Good work seeking out numbers :)

Did you ask why they didn't cover the other schools? Based on your statement above it is a fact that the do deliver newspapers to those areas. So why schools in that area are not included in the All-Area team?

If they didn't deliver to those areas I could understand. But I'm done with this topic :)

Congratulations to those who were on the list.
