Central's Barb falls in state semis

Central's Molly Barb fell short in the Group A individual singles state tournament on Thursday in Radford, falling to Gate City's Rosa Smith in the semifinals.
Barb, a senior making her first appearance in the state tournament, put up a battle before falling 6-4, 6-4 to Smith.
In the championship, Bland County's Grace Sarver successfully defended her state title by dispatching Smith by a 6-0, 6-0 score.
In today's Group AA state tournament individual doubles competition, Sherando's Trey Scott and Chris Mikus are slated to face Jamestown's J.J. Wilroy and Sam Ross in the semifinal round. Match time is 9:30 a.m., in Radford.
