SU roundup: Baseball Hornets stay ranked

Daily Staff Report - sports@nvdaily.com

The Shenandoah University baseball team ends the 2012 season ranked among the nation's top teams in a ranking poll released Monday by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

The Hornets, 31-13 on the year, finish the season ranked No. 20 by the ABCA.

This is the fourth straight year that SU has been ranked in the final poll of the season.

SU earned its fourth straight bid to the NCAA Tournament this past season and advanced to the final day of the regional championships where it was eliminated by soon-to-be former USA South Conference rival Christopher Newport University.

Marietta (Ohio), the 2012 national champion, is the top team in the poll. The Pioneers had all eight first-place votes.

Shenandoah finished the year with four wins against teams ranked in the final poll with victories over No. 5 CNU, No. 10 Salisbury, No. 27 Lynchburg and No. 29 Rowan (N.J.).

SU starts its 2013 season in mid-February.
