Sherando pair fall in semifinals

Sherando's Trey Scott and Chris Mikus came up short in their quest for a state title on Friday in Blacksburg. The pair fell to Jamestown's J.J. Wilroy and Sam Ross, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in the Group AA Individual Doubles state semifinals.
The Sherando pair put up a fight after dropping a close first set, but couldn't get over the hump in the final set.
Wilroy and Ross will play E.C. Glass's Thatcher Jennings and Mitchell Swann in the doubles final Saturday at noon in Blacksburg. Jennings and Swann beat Blacksburg's Will Coffey and David Rouhoniemi, 7-6 (9), 7-5 in the other semifinal.
E.C. Glass will play Western Albemarle in the boys team final at 9 a.m. E.C. Glass beat Handley 5-1 on Friday in the semifinals.
Handley's Jessie Nolan and Kathryn Bock advanced to the Group AA doubles state final on Friday with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jamestown's Leah Walter and Abby Hunt in the semifinals. The Handley pair will play E.C. Glass' Sydney Moon and Paige Riley in Saturday's state final at noon in Blacksburg. Moon and Riley beat Abingdon's Emily Henderson and Carrie Lopez, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the semifinals.
