Rebels win first game of doubleheader

NEW MARKET -- Host New Market scored five runs in the first on its way to a 7-1 victory over Covington in the opening game of a doubleheader in Valley Baseball League action Thursday.

The Rebels scored the five runs on six hits and one walk.

Mac Hudgins and Tyler Slaton had two hits each for New Market.

Nick Hladek was 1 for 3 for the 'Jacks with his first inning single also driving in his club's only run.

Front Royal 4, Luray 2

Host Front Royal won its second straight game with a 4-2 victory over Luray.

The game was called after seven innings due to lightning.

Christopher Gruarin was 3 for 3 and Jordan Lee 2 for 4 for the Cards. Both men drove in two runs.

Orlando Olivera and Luke Drayer had two hits each for the Wranglers.
