Former JMU guard Dawn Evans signed with the LA Sparks of the Women's National Basketball Association on Friday.
Evans played for the Sparks on Saturday against Seattle and played 1:37 of the game. The Sparks won 82-71.
The 5-7 Evans, who led JMU to the Colonial Athletic Association title in both 2010 and 2011, is the Dukes' all-time leader in four different statistical categories, including points, free throws, three point shots made and three point shots attempted. She also holds CAA records for career points and three pointers made and attempted.
In July Evans was honored for her play for the U.S. All-Star Team in a series of summer games in China. She was named the team's Most Valuable Player for its series of games vs. the China National "B" Team.
Earlier this year Evans played in Vienna, Austria, for the Flying Foxes and signed a training camp contract with the WNBA's Connecticut Sun. She trained with the Sun in April and May and played in three preseason games but was not selected for the Sun's 2012 roster.
Evans was named CAA Player of the Year in 2011, as well as All-CAA First Team and Tournament Most Outstanding Player. She was an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American as a junior in 2010 as well as both an Associated Press and WBCA State Farm Honorable Mention All-American in 2011 as a senior. Evans ranked in the top five in scoring in the nation in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
