JMU tops Temple in women's soccer

JMU freshman Kelly Kerrigan had a goal and an assist to help lead the Dukes' women's soccer team (2-1-0) to a 2-0 win over Temple (0-2-1) in Sunday's second round of the JMU/Fairfield Inn by Marriott Invitational Tournament at University Park.
In the day's first game, Georgetown (4-0-0) remained unbeaten with a 2-1 win over previously undefeated Hofstra (2-1-0).
The JMU-Temple game was scoreless for 70 minutes until the Dukes knocked in goals in the 71st and 73rd minutes.
Kerrigan scored on a pass from redshirt senior Kelly Germain at 70:34.
Redshirt freshman Eileen Sechler scored less than two minutes later, at 72:30, to push the JMU lead to 2-0. Kerrigan had an assist on the goal.
JMU out-shot Temple 24-4, and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Kate Courter made a single save to get the shutout. Owls redshirt senior goalkeeper Tara Murphy stopped 12 shots.
