Daily Staff Report - email@example.com
James Madison University women's basketball coach Kenny Brooks has announced the promotion of Sean O'Regan to associate head coach.
O'Regan joined the JMU program as assistant coach in 2007, and the Dukes have averaged nearly 26 wins per year and have advanced to postseason play all five seasons that he has been with the program. In that span JMU has won two Colonial Athletic Association championships (2010, 2011) and has played in two NCAA tournaments (2010, 2011) and three Women's National Invitation Tournaments (2008, 2009, 2012). The 2012 team advanced to the WNIT championship game. JMU teams have a record of 129-43, a winning percentage of .750, during O'Regan's tenure.
"I am extremely excited for Sean and the JMU women's basketball program to announce his promotion to associate head coach," Brooks said in a news release. "He is very deserving of this title through his hard work, dedication and loyalty to JMU. Sean's efforts as a recruiter, coach and role model have helped our program become successful over the last five years. I am looking forward to continued success in the future."
O'Regan, a 2003 graduate of JMU, has been recognized as one of the top assistants in mid-major conferences, as Jason Belzer of CollegeInsider.com rated him number 11 on his 2011-12 list of the nation's top 25 assistant coaches in the mid-majors.
O'Regan coordinates JMU's schedule and is also in charge of the Dukes' guard play.
The Montpelier, Vt., native holds a bachelor's degree in kinesiology with a concentration in sports management.
