James Madison University senior midfielder Jenna Taylor (Midlothian, Va./James River) and redshirt freshman forward Taylor West (Princess Anne, Md./Pocomoke) were each named to the 2012 Preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association field hockey team in a vote of the league's head coaches on Wednesday.
Northeastern's Crystal Poland a First Team All-America honoree in 2011 was chosen as the Preseason Player of the Year. Returning champion Old Dominion led all teams with three selections while JMU, Northeastern, Drexel and Hofstra all had two honorees each.
Taylor made First Team All-CAA a year ago after finishing the season with three goals and four assists for 10 points. Her three goals tied for third on the team while her four assists ranked second. She started all 19 games in the Dukes' midfield and recorded 12 shots, eight of which were on goal and one game-winning goal.
West received a medical redshirt after playing in just three games a year ago. She was a CAA All-Rookie team selection after leading the team in goals with six and points with 13. She recorded 14 shots, 11 of which were on net and went 1-for-1 in penalty stroke attempts. In her only CAA game as a true freshman, she finished with a hat trick against Drexel.
The Dukes open their 2012 field hockey season Friday in Kent, Ohio, as they take on Vermont in a neutral site game at 2:30 p.m. The Dukes close the road trip on Sunday at noon on the road against Kent State.
