Daily Staff Report - sports@nvdaily.com

FOREST -- Shenandoah University is picked fifth and sixth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference cross country polls released Monday morning by the ODAC office.

The SU women are picked fifth of 10 teams, while the SU men are the preseason No. 6 selection in the 11-team men's race.

Both teams are competing in their inaugural ODAC campaigns this fall.

Last season, the men and women were both second in the USA South.

Bridgewater, with nine of 10 first-place votes, easily outdistanced Washington & Lee for the top spot on the women's side.

Virginia Wesleyan and Lynchburg came in just ahead of SU with 55 and 53 points, respectively.

Lynchburg, with eight of 11 first-place votes, leads on the men's side. Bridgewater, Roanoke, Guilford and Virginia Wesleyan are the Nos. 2 through 5 picks ahead of Shenandoah.

SU opens up its 2012 season on Sept. 1 at Salisbury.
