SU roundup: Hornets add two soccer assistants

Daily Staff Report - sports@nvdaily.com

Shenandoah University head men's soccer coach Corbin Sutton announced a pair of assistants for his program Thursday morning.

Sutton, who is preparing for his second season at the helm of the men's program, welcomes Mike Danielson and James Lofton as his two assistants this year.

This is Danielson's second stint as a men's assistant coach. After starring for the program from 1989-92 and serving as captain in his senior year, Danielson was a volunteer assistant in 1996.

In addition to his SU experience, Danielson served as an assistant coach at Sherando High School from 2000 through 2004 and as a player coach for the Winchester Impact semi-professional team in the Premier Arena Soccer League from 2008-11.

Lofton, a Harrisonburg native, played on two CAA championship teams at William & Mary after transferring from UNC-Greensboro.

Following his 2011 graduation, Lofton began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach at the U.S. Naval Academy in the fall of 2011.

In the spring of 2012, he served as the head coach of the boy's soccer team at nearby Rappahannock County High School.

"I am very happy to have Mike and James on board this season," Sutton said in a news release. "They have done a terrific job with the guys during pre-season camp and the players have really responded to them.

"They both have great playing and coaching experience and it is great to be working with them."

Shenandoah opens its 2012 season Friday at Washington College.
