Daily Staff Report - sports@nvdaily.com

NORFOLK -- James Madison women's soccer coach Dave Lombardo got an early birthday gift when the Dukes handled Old Dominion 5-0 in a Colonial Athletic Association match Thursday afternoon.

Lombardo, who celebrates his birthday Friday, saw his Dukes (3-6-0, 1-0-0) score the program's most goals in a road game since 2006. ODU (2-6-0, 0-1-0) dropped its second straight game by shutout.

Sophomore Katie Hyland played a role in JMU's early scoring, netting the Dukes' first goal and assisting on the second in a span of just 20 seconds.

Senior Katie Menzie sent a pass ahead to Hyland, who dribbled around ODU goalkeeper Brianna Alvarado and scored on an open net 36:48 into the game.

A long pass from Hyland found junior Lauren Wilson, who sent a shot into the right side of the goal at 37:08.

Freshman Elissa Halik gave the Dukes a 3-0 lead when she scores on a rebound of a shot by junior Becky Sparks at 42:48.

Kelly Germain scored the first of her two goals at 62:19. Redshirt junior Haley Miller and Sparks are credited with assists.

Sophomore Stephanie Hamilton set up Germain's second goal with a long pass to give the Dukes a 5-0 lead at 83:45.
