Shenandoah University completed its play at the 2012 Virginia State Division III golf Championships Sunday afternoon by finishing ninth in the annual tournament.
A day after shooting 315, the Hornets improved by four strokes on day two over the par-70, 6235-yard Danville CC layout.
The 626 two-day total put SU ninth in the 11-team event, but just two strokes from a tie for sixth.
Shenandoah was one stroke behind fellow ODAC member Virginia Wesleyan and two back of league opponents Lynchburg and Roanoke.
Averett, with a 585 total, won the tournament by 13 strokes over Bridgewater.
Junior John Judy was the Hornets medalist, carding a two-over-par 72 on Sunday for a 148 total that was good for a tie for seventh place in the 60-man field.
Freshman and Sherando graduate Cory Hammons had his second straight 77 to finish tied for 23rd.
