SU roundup: Darrow named ODAC Player of the Week

Freshman Alexandra Darrow was named ODAC Player of the Week for field hockey in selections announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Darrow had two goals in three assists last week for the Hornets, who defeated Hood and Frostburg State before falling 2-1 to No. 17 in the nation Christopher Newport University Sunday afternoon.

In the 4-1 win over Hood, Darrow had a goal and two assists before scoring the game-winner in a 2-1 victory over Frostburg State.

The Chesapeake, Virginia native then dished out her squad's lone assist in the CNU contest.

Darrow currently leads SU with three goals and four assists for 10 points.

The Shenandoah University golf team completed its initial tournament of the 2012-13 season Monday afternoon by shooting a collective 329.

After shooting 323 on day one of the two-day, 36-hole event at the par-72, 6806-yard Winchester Country Club course, the Hornets shot had the collective 329 to finish fourth of five teams.

Fellow ODAC member RandolphRandolph-Macon improved by one stroke Monday from its Sunday score to win the event by 31 strokes over the Apprentice School.

Apprentice had the largest improvement on day two, shaving 20 strokes off of its day one score to finish at 640 and best Virginia Wesleyan by six strokes for the runner-up position.

VWC had identical 323 scores on both days of the tournament.

The Shenandoah 'B' team rounded out the tournament with a 346-346--692.

Macon had a 305-304--609 in winning.

John Dozier, from Virginia Wesleyan, won the individual title with a four-over-par 73-75--148.

John Judy was the Hornets medalist with a 75-80--155. He finished sixth overall.
