Central boys, girls advance to states: Strasburg girls place third in regional meet

Central qualified in both the boys and girls Region B cross country meets held Wednesday at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville.
The Falcons finished third in the boys meet, and fourth in the girls meet. The top four teams and top 15 individual qualifiers advance to next weekend's state meet.
Strasburg finished third in the girls meet to qualify for the state meet.
Wilson Memorial swept both meets. The Green Hornets won the boys meet with 67 points, followed by George Mason (69), Central (114) and Altavista (114). Strasburg placed fifth with 146, while Stonewall Jackson was 10th with 246.
Strasburg's Anthony Wallis (17:21) placed fifth in the boys meet, while teammate Mark Colson (17:24) finished seventh to qualify for the state meet.
Central's Tony Whetzel (17:49) placed 13th.
Wilson Memorial won the girls meet with 55 points, followed by George Mason (65), Strasburg (94) and Central (95). Stonewall Jackson finished sixth with 188.
Individually, Strasburg senior Kirsten Campbell (20:26) finished third in the girls meet. Central's Lexi Keller (20:44) and Katie Ritenour (20:52) placed fifth and sixth respectively.
Wilson Memorial's Stephen Good won the boys meet in a time of 16:48. The girls meet was won by Wilson Memorial's Hannah Rose in a time of 18:27.
