Generals advance to Region B meet

Stonewall Jackson High School advanced both its boys and girls cross country squads to next week's Region B meet with top-three finishes at Wednesday's Shenandoah District meet in Fishersville.
Stonewall Jackson's girls posted a runner-up finish with 59 points. Host Wilson Memorial won the girls competition with 19 points.
In the boys meet, Wilson Memorial won with 20 points, followed by East Rockingham (69) and Stonewall (85).
Junior Ashton Davis had the best individual day for the Generals, taking second in the girls meet with a time of 20 minutes, 52 seconds. Other scorers for Stonewall included Cristy Lazaro-Luna (eighth, 22:15), Mandy Miller (14th, 23:09), Kortni Beeson (15th, 23:18) and Cheyanne Green (20th, 23:55).
Wilson Memorial's Hannah Rose won the girls competition with a time of 18:34.
In the boys meet, Jeremiah Hines finished eighth in 18:27 to pace Stonewall. Other scorers for the Generals were Pedro Jacuinde (10th, 18:40), Carlos Garcia (14th, 18:55), Andrew Roy (22nd, 19:38) and Tucker Lutz (31st, 20:35).
Wilson Memorial's Stephen Good won the boys meet with a time of 16:48.
The Region B meet is next Wednesday at Panorama Farms in Charlottesville.
Kayla Gibbons won the girls competition to help lead Warren County to a second-place finish at Tuesday's Evergreen District cross country meet in Nokesville.
Gibbons took first-place honors with a winning time of 19:43. The Wildcats took the top three spots, as Warren County's Rachel Oden was second in 20:14 and Ariel Asher finished third in 20:16.
Other scorers for the Wildcats were Fiona Sayers (15th, 22:23) and Jacklyn Rankin (22nd, 25:05) as Warren County tallied 40 points to finish behind district champion Brentsville (30).
The Wildcats advance to next Thursday's Region II meet at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg.
Warren County's boys didn't fare as well, finishing fifth in the Evergreen meet. Brentsville was first and Fauquier took second to advance to regionals.
The Wildcats did advance two individuals with top-15 efforts, as Zach Beckner was ninth in 17:42 and Nick Myers took 15th in 17:55.
Other scorers for Warren County were Nathaniel Lund (17th, 18:08), Erik Stafira (28th, 19:24) and Joey Catalani (30th, 19:34).
