Four different JMU players hit over .300, including a .455 attack percentage from sophomore middle blocker Lizzy Briones, but Northeastern hit .424 as a team to sweep past JMU in volleyball, 3-0, at Solomon Court in Boston, Mass., on Sunday afternoon.
Northeastern won its fifth straight in conference action to improve to 16-3 overall and 5-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play. JMU lost its second straight to drop to 9-9 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Briones collected a match-high 13 kills. She added two digs and a block for the Dukes. Senior outside hitter Danielle Erb finished with nine kills, also contributing three digs, a block and an ace while freshman outside hitter MacKenzie Kleespies had a career-high eight kills. Senior outside hitter Natalie Abel finished with six kills to go with four digs, a block and an assist.
Senior Megan Wiechmann and freshman Sarah Patterson combined for 37 assists, six digs and three service aces from the setter position for JMU. Junior libero Katie Daorai had a team-best nine digs, an assist and a service ace.
JMU collected 10 service aces to eight for the Huskies, but had just 31 digs in three sets played.
JMU returns to the court next weekend as it hosts Delaware and Towson for a pair of CAA matches. The Dukes host the Blue Hens at Sinclair Gymnasium at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12 before taking on the Tigers at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
