JMU roundup: Dukes top Radford in field hockey

Daily Staff Reports - sports@nvdaily.com

Redshirt junior forward Rachel Wein scored two goals and added two assists for a career-high six points to lead the James Madison University field hockey team to a 4-0 shutout of Radford at the JMU Field Hockey Complex on Tuesday evening.

JMU won its 21st straight in the series against Radford and its second consecutive game this season to improve to 8-4 overall. Radford fell to 1-11 with the loss.

Wein scored her two goals on three shots. She now leads the team with six goals and 15 points on the season. Sophomore forward Rachel Palumbo and freshman forward Danni Wilson added a goal each while senior midfielder Jenna Taylor and redshirt freshman forward Taylor West had one assist each. West had a game-high five shots, including three on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Lena Wimmert earned the win in net for the Dukes. She improved to 8-4 by recording her fourth shutout of the season. It is the first time a JMU goalie has had back-to-back shutouts since Margo Savage (2008-11) did it in the opening two games of the 2010 season.

JMU returns to play on Friday evening as it hosts Duke at the JMU Field Hockey Complex at 7 p.m.
