Daily Staff Reports - sports@nvdaily.com

JMU women's soccer player Lauren Wilson was named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 7.

The junior forward had game-winners in two JMU victories last week. She scored 3:57 into the second overtime in a 1-0 home win over George Mason on Oct. 4. In a 1-0 victory at Towson on Oct. 7, Wilson scored on her team's first shot of the game just 2:10 into the match.

Wilson increased her career goals total to 21 and took sole possession of 13th place on JMU's all-time list.

JMU's next game is at North Carolina Wilmington on Oct. 11.

JMU Swimming and Diving head coach Samantha Smith announced the promotion of Dane Pedersen to associate head coach on Monday.

"We are very excited to promote Dane to the position of associate head swim coach at JMU," Smith said in a press release. "He has been an integral part of our success over the past five years and has proven to be an invaluable part of the swimming and diving family."

Pedersen is entering his sixth season as an assistant at JMU. The team has improved its finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships in each of his seasons with the team, highlighted by the sixth conference title in school history in 2012-13. Prior to his arrival in July of 2007, the team finished ninth at the 2006-07 CAA Championships.
