Shenandoah University Head Baseball Coach Kevin Anderson announced Monday the addition of Phil Betterly to his coaching staff.
Betterly, a 2009 Methodist University graduate, comes to Shenandoah after serving on the Frostburg State University staff from 2010-12 as he was pursuing his Master's Degree.
He will serve on Anderson's staff as pitching coach and also work with the squad's catchers.
In the spring of 2010, Betterly was an assistant coach under legendary MU coach Tom Austin.
This past summer Betterly skippered the Woodstock River Bandits of the Valley Baseball League to a playoff appearance. He is scheduled to return as the 'Bandits manager this coming summer.
"I have had the opportunity to watch Phil as a player at Methodist and then as a coach at Methodist, Frostburg and with Woodstock in the Valley," Anderson said in a press release.
"I was impressed with him as he broke into the coaching profession and I think he is an excellent addition to our staff. He has done a great job working with our pitchers and catchers this fall and this can only help us as we transition into the ODAC this spring."
Shenandoah, which has made an NCAA Regional appearance in each of the past four years, plays its first ODAC season this coming spring. The 2013 season is scheduled to open February 16 versus Misericordia.
Betterly joins a coaching staff that includes Anderson, Bruce Cameron, David Jenkins and Patrick Wingfield. He will be involved in all aspects of the program.
