Shenandoah roundup: Hornets fall in double-OT

Shenandoah University's women's soccer team played regional power Mary Washington University for more than 100 minutes Monday afternoon before falling 1-0 in a non-conference contest.
Erin Reynolds scored unassisted for Mary Washington (9-1-2) in the 105th minute to push the Eagles past Shenandoah (5-8-1).
Prior to Reynolds' tally, the two teams were locked in a close battle. Mary Washington had a 12-8 advantage in shots before the game-winner, but Shenandoah took six of seven shots in the second half.
Mary Washington had a slight, 5-3, advantage in corner kicks.
Hornets keeper Nichole Pratt made six saves.
Shenandoah returns to ODAC play with a home contest on Wednesday night at 7:00 against Washington and Lee.
Lake had two singles wins and a doubles victory for SU in her first collegiate competition.
Playing No. 6 singles, she opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lynchburg's Ari Peikin in the quarterfinals before taking out Rita Murphy from Bridgewater 8-0 in the semis.
A championship match against Haley Goodes from Roanoke was unfinished due to rain.
In doubles, Lake paired with Kayla Green to win by default over Victoria Coffee and Sarah Grace McCormick in the quarterfinal round.
This concludes the team's final competition. Spring play starts in early February.
