The Shenandoah University volleyball team snapped a five-match losing streak Friday night with a 3-1 non-league home victory over Hood College.
Shenandoah (9-9) was dominant in winning the opening set at 9, but saw Hood (6-9) take a 25-19 victory in the second to knot the match at 1-1.
SU used the 10-minute promotional break to its advantage, storming past the Blazers with 25-7 victory in the third set before closing out the match with a 25-20 triumph in the fourth.
In the third, senior Kelcy Brown, who had a match-high 22 assists, served the final 11 points of the set. Brown had two service aces in the run while Hood helped the Hornets cause by making six attack errors in that same span.
Shenandoah led the fourth from the mid-point on and clinched the victory with a 4-0 run.
Freshman Blake Parkes had a service ace for the final point of the match.
The victory completes a season sweep for SU over the Blazers.
Junior Haley Smith paced the victors with a match-high 13 kills with Mary Harshman and Megan Gillispie adding seven each.
Harshman had 14 digs and Smith was involved in six of the team's nine total team blocks to lead the defensive effort.
Shenandoah is back in action on Tuesday in an ODAC match at Washington and Lee.
