WAYNESBORO -- Deandre Burnett's 44-point effort sparked Massanutten Military Academy's postgraduate men's basketball team to a 91-83 victory over Southern Tech Prep (N.C.) on Thursday in the FMS 2012 Holiday Inn Express Waynesboro Tip-Off Challenge.
Burnett, who is expected to sign his national letter-of-intent next week to play at the University of Miami, was the top scorer for the Colonels to the win. MMA improved to 5-0.
Host Fishburne Military School downed Richard Bland Community College 111-53 in another opening-round game Thursday. Kuran Iverson, a 6-foot-10 center planning to sign with Memphis, led the Caissons with 25 points.
MMA continues tournament play today against Richard Bland in a 4 p.m. game. Fishburne Military takes on RISE Academy at 8 p.m.
