SU roundup: Hornets picked 12th in men's hoops

Daily Staff Report - sports@nvdaily.com

Shenandoah University has been selected 12th in the pre-season men's basketball poll in voting results released Thursday as part of the league's annual Media Day.

Shenandoah, which advanced into the USA South Conference semi-finals last season in its final year in the league, has 14 points to round out the poll.

National pre-season No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan leads the poll with 121 points and 11 of 12 first-place votes.

Hampden-Sydney and Randolph-Macon, both ranked in the pre-season top 25, come in behind VWC with 109 and 99 points, respectively.

Points were awarded on an 11-1 basis and coaches could not vote for themselves in the poll. R-MC received the Virginia Wesleyan's first-place vote.

Shenandoah opens up its first ODAC campaign on November 24 at home versus Washington and Lee. The Generals were one of eight ODAC games for SU last season - W&L was an 80-65 winner in Winchester on November 22.

The Hornets' first outside competition is November 9 at DII West Virginia Wesleyan in an exhibition.
