SU roundup: Hornets announce 2013 baseball slate
Daily Staff Report - email@example.com
Shenandoah University baseball coach Kevin Anderson announced his finalized 2013 schedule Monday morning.
Anderson, preparing to enter his 10th season as the Hornets skipper, has 22 home games on the docket this coming spring.
SU opens with a doubleheader against Misericordia on Feb. 16 -- the Cougars finished the year ranked No. 21 in the nation and advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the second straight year.
That Saturday doubleheader is the first of four straight home dates for the Hornets to open the season. Mount Aloysius completes the opening weekend with a Sunday single game before Susquehanna makes its first-ever trip to Winchester on the following Saturday for another non-league double-dip.
Elizabethtown, on Feb. 26, completes this opening stretch.
ODAC play begins on that next Sunday, March 3, with a doubleheader at Roanoke.
Shenandoah hosts Guilford, Hampden-Sydney, Virginia Wesleyan and Lynchburg in Saturday ODAC doubleheaders with Eastern Mennonite and Bridgewater visiting for mid-week single games.
Washington and Lee will round out the Hornets' home conference slate when it comes to town on April 16 for a Tuesday doubleheader.
SU also has home non-league games with Mary Washington, Penn St.-Altoona, York (Pa.) and Catholic.
The regular season finale is scheduled for April 21 at Farmingdale (N.Y.) State. Shenandoah has not faced the Rams since the 2009 National Championships.
"With the ODAC playing Saturday doubleheaders coupled with mid-week single games, pitching is going to be even more important this year," Anderson said in a news release. "I think we have put together a schedule that allows us to be successful and prepares us for ODAC play.
"I know our guys are ready to get the season started."
