STEPHENS CITY -- Host Sherando cruised to its fourth straight win on Tuesday, beating Northwestern District rival Handley 64-34.
Each of the Warriors' last four victories has come in the district, and Sherando is a perfect 4-0 in the Northwestern after the first run through the district slate.
Sherando (7-8, 4-0 Northwestern) jumped on the Judges early, taking a 25-10 lead after the first period.
"That was a goal, to come out here and put them on their heels early," Warriors coach Kevin Reed said. "We've got an unselfish team, we've got kids who are willing to shoot ... and willing passers. I think we had 18 assists in the contest, and it all comes out of our defense."
Sherando held a 36-14 lead at halftime and opened the third quarter on a 10-0 run to essentially put the game out of reach. Warriors junior Alaina Combs knocked down a bucket in the paint as time expired in the third quarter to give Sherando a 54-27 lead going into the final period.
The Warriors played well defensively, holding the Judges (8-6, 1-2) to four points in both the second and fourth quarters. Sherando also recorded 17 steals in the contest.
Sophomore Heidi Brown and freshman Lauren Reed each scored 22 points to lead the Warriors. Brown also led Sherando with six rebounds and five blocks, and sophomore Erin Magalis had five steals.
Angelica Robinson led the Judges with 13 points, and Alysandra Worrell added 12 for Handley.
