Prep roundup: Hawks start quick in win

FRONT ROYAL -- Skyline got off to a quick start and didn't look back en route to a 52-27 non-district girls basketball victory over Fauquier on Tuesday night.
The Hawks jumped out to an 18-4 lead with 4:57 left in the first half. The Hawks defense came up big as they forced Fauquier into 11 first-half turnovers, and to 7.4 percent (2 for 27) from the field.
"Obviously, I was happy with our defense tonight," Skyline coach Jim Kenney said. "We needed this win. We've been struggling offensively this season. Tonight for the first time we actually had some shots drop."
The Hawks scored a season-high 52 points, topping their previous best by four. Shayne Clifton had 17 points and five rebounds to lead the Hawks. Jenny Norman had 13 points, 13 rebounds, two assist and two steals, and Sarah Dodge had seven points and eight rebounds for Skyline. Quinn Breeden had eight points, four assists and three steals for the Hawks (4-13).
Manassas Park 46, Strasburg 44
STRASBURG -- The Rams saw a fourth-quarter lead disappear in a Bull Run District loss to the Cougars on Tuesday night.
Strasburg outscored Manassas Park 17-4 in the third quarter to take a 33-29 lead going into the final eight minutes. The Cougars outscored the Rams 17-11 in the final quarter to win the game.
Emily Melnikoff and Katie Dofermire had 12 points each to lead the Rams (4-14, 3-7 Bull Run). Kelsey Jenkins added seven points and four assists for the Rams.
George Mason 67, Falcons 37
WOODSTOCK -- The Mustangs jumped on the Falcons early and didn't let up in a Bull Run District girls basketball rout.
The Mustangs took a 20-5 lead after the first quarter and increased the lead to 20 points at the half. Allison Bright led the Falcons with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Mary Wakeman had 10 points.
Riverheads 40, Stonewall Jackson 35
QUICKSBURG -- The Gladiators outscored the Generals in each of the first three quarters as they pulled out a Shenandoah District girls basketball victory.
Riverheads had a 17-11 halftime lead, and extended it to eight points heading into the final quarter. Michaela Koontz led the Generals (5-13, 2-8 Shenandoah) with 11 points. Libby Milo led the Gladiators (14-4, 6-4 Shenandoah) with 15 points.
