SU roundup: Hornet athletes claim academic honors

The Shenandoah University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced Monday that more than 200 of its student-athletes have earned Dean's List or Athletic Director's List honors for the fall 2012 semester.
A record 137 student-athletes were named to the Dean's List (3.25 GPA or above) with an additional 65 named to the Athletic Director's List.
Student-athletes on the AD List earned at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale this past fall.
The 203 total student-athletes named shatters the previous high of 176 set in the spring 2012 semester.
The total is better than 45 percent of the 450 student-athletes competing in intercollegiate athletics for Shenandoah.
All 20 teams had at least one student-athlete earn Athletic Director's List honors with the football and baseball teams leading the way with 36 and 33 honorees, respectively.
The women's cross country team saw all seven of its members earn at least a 3.0 GPA to take high-concentration honors.
Women's soccer, with 19 of 25 women (76 percent), men's golf (9 of 13, 69 percent), softball, (15 of 22, 68 percent) and men's soccer (16 of 24, 67 percent), backed up the female harriers.
Women's field hockey saw 58 percent of its players earn at least a 3.0 GPA and had a department-high four members -- Katherine Brady, Sarah DeLuca, Katelyn Gregory and Sarah Wohld -- post perfect 4.0 GPAs.
Molly Barb (women's tennis), Brittany Guepe (softball), Nate Long (men's soccer) and Jon Nicholson (baseball) joined the four field hockey players in earning a 4.0.
An additional 18, led by a 3.95 from women's lacrosse captain Sydney Anderson, had at least a 3.9.
