It isn't how Massanutten Military University's boys basketball team envisioned winning the Cavalier Athletic Conference tournament championship, but they'll take it.
The Colonels were scheduled to face Middleburg Academy in Wednesday night's championship game at Wakefield School in The Plains. Instead, MMA claimed the title without taking a shot after Middleburg elected to forfeit.
"The kids were positive about it," MMA coach Melvin Abrams said. "They said, 'Coach, we made it to the championship. It's not our fault we didn't have anybody to play.' So they're looking at it as a victory."
The win ended the season for the Colonels, and the CAC title was a first for the boys team. MMA was 8-5 this season.
