QUICKSBURG -- Central High School's Bekah Ansbro had a varsity softball debut she won't soon forget on Wednesday against Stonewall Jackson.
The Falcons' starting pitcher, Ansbro had a five-inning no-hitter in Central's 20-0 mercy-rule shortened victory. Ansbro had nine strikeouts.
At the plate, Ansbro collected a pair of extra-base hits with a double and a triple.
Also for Central (1-0), Sydney Plum came through with a monster day at the plate. She had a pair of home runs among her three hits -- the other a double -- and drove in five runs.
Mikayla Viar also had three hits for the Falcons, who pounded out 15 hits in all.
Page County 9, Strasburg 1
SHENANDOAH -- Visiting Strasburg showed the ill effects of an outdoor practice shortage on Wednesday, dropping a 9-1 decision to Page County in the Rams' season debut.
Strasburg had four errors in the game.
Offensively, Strasburg catcher Nikki Killen was 2 for 3 with a double, two stolen bases and an RBI.
Skyline 8, Fauquier 3
FRONT ROYAL -- Skyline's Nick Helmick was a home run short of hitting for the cycle in the Hawks' 8-3 win over Fauquier on Wednesday.
Helmick was 3 for 3 with a single, a double and a triple. He drove in three runs and scored one to back Skyline starting pitcher Sterling Jennings.
Jennings earned the win after pitching 4 2/3 innings, with four strikeouts. Joe Dawkins finished out the final 2 1/3 innings for the save. He had three strikeouts.
Also for Skyline (1-1), catcher Hunter Partlowe was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
