SU roundup: Sisson sparks Hornets to women's lacrosse win

BRIDGEWATER -- The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team won its third straight game Thursday afternoon with a 13-5 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory at Bridgewater College.
Shenandoah (5-1, 2-0 ODAC) scored the opening five goals of the game in downing the Eagles (1-6, 0-2).
Senior Amy Rollins had the initial goal of the game for the Hornets, scoring off of a Samantha Sisson assist at 23:20 before Sisson scored unassisted at 19:33 for the squad's second goal.
Taking a 5-1 lead into the halftime intermission after BC scored 16 seconds prior to the halftime gun, Sisson took over early in the second.
The junior midfielder scored at 24:52, 22:21, 15:02 and 11:55 to help coach Lindsey Lutz' club extend its advantage out to seven goals at 10-3 with 11:55 remaining.
Rollins finished the 8-2 run to start the second with a goal off of a Mary Kogler feed at 10:29.
The two teams then traded the final four goals of the contest.
Sisson led all players with five goals and one assist for six points with Rollins adding three goals, Corrinne Kosmowski two and Liz Bereit a goal and an assist.
Shenandoah had a 27-24 advantage in shots and scooped up 23 of the game's 40 groundballs.
Ashley Cross made six saves in posting the victory.
SU hosts Roanoke on Sunday at 2 p.m. in another ODAC contest. The two teams are currently tied with Guilford and Randolph-Macon at the top of the league standings.
