JMU roundup: Roguski leads Dukes to women's lacrosse win

WILLIAMSBURG -- Junior Amy Roguski scored a career-high six goals to lead the James Madison women's lacrosse team to an 18-7 win at William and Mary in Colonial Athletic Association action on Friday afternoon.

JMU got its 10th win of the season, upping its overall record to 10-5 and its CAA record to 5-1. The Dukes won their third straight game.

W&M dropped its third game in a row and now has a 4-11 overall record and a 1-5 CAA record.

The Tribe's Taelor Salmon scored in the opening minute of play to give W&M a 1-0 lead. However, JMU scored three times in just over four minutes and led 3-1 after a Roguski goal at 24:41. The Dukes never trailed in the match and led 8-3 at halftime.

Other multiple-goal scorers for JMU included redshirt senior Casey Ancarrow and sophomore Steph Finley, each with three, and sophomore Ali Curwin and junior Julianne Giles with two each. Ancarrow also had an assist, and Curwin had two assists.

Salmon and Zoe Buger led W&M with two goals apiece.

JMU held a 34-19 shot advantage and had 14 draw controls to 12 for the Tribe.

Roguski led all players with five draw controls. Senior Kelsey MacDonald, Curwin and sophomore Hannah Verschoore each finished with two caused turnovers. MacDonald and redshirt sophomore Kaci Starkloff led JMU with three ground balls each.

Starkloff, in her first start in goal, made seven saves. W&M starter Katie Geary made three stops in the first half, and Colleen Nofi had seven saves in the second half.

Baseball

James Madison's scheduled three-game Colonial Athletic Association baseball series against Georgia State was been pushed back one day with Friday's opener in Harrisonburg postponed due to the forecast of severe weather conditions.

The series will now consist of a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m., with the second game to follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first. Sunday's finale will be at 1 p.m.
