FALLS CHURCH -- Central scored three runs in the top of the fourth to rally for a 5-3 Bull Run District baseball victory over George Mason on Tuesday.
"We used a little small ball," Central coach Donn Foltz said of the rally. "We executed some bunts, ran the bases well. We had some timely hits and got it done."
Eric Semones went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Jordan Rau went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Falcons (9-4, 5-2 Bull Run).
Central 3, George Mason 1
FALLS CHURCH -- Sydney Plum hit a solo home run to help lead the Falcons past the Mustangs in Bull Run District action.
Plum also picked up the win in the circle for the Falcons, allowing only five hits. Katelyn Poston had a hit and scored the other two runs for Central (7-6, 3-4 Bull Run). The Falcons had only three hits total.
George Mason 2, Central 1
WOODSTOCK -- Central hung tough with Bull Run District power George Mason, but still came up short on Tuesday.
Central's Stephen Hamrick tied the game 1-1 on a goal with 32 minutes left in the game. The Mustangs responded 11 minutes later with the game-winning goal. George Mason outshot Central, 24-8. The Falcons are now 3-5-1 overall, and 2-4-1 in the Bull Run.
SVCA 2, Highland 1
WARRENTON -- Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy picked up a 2-1 win over host Highland School on Tuesday to extend its unbeaten streak to 15 games.
The Patriots (15-0) struck early against Highland, as junior Megan Norton scored a goal off an assist from junior Maddie Deason just two minutes into the match. SVCA extended the lead to two goals in the 64th minute when junior Bethany Emswiller scored on another assist by Deason.
Highland's lone goal came in the 79th minute.
Sophomore Kayla Phaneuf recorded two saves for SVCA. The Patriots outshot Highland 19-6 in the match.
