WOODSTOCK -- Central won the Harry Combs Classic softball tournament on Saturday. The host Falcons beat Skyline, 9-5, in the championship game. Central beat Millbrook, 10-0, in the semifinals.
In the championship game, the Falcons jumped out to an 8-0 lead through the first five innings. Rebekah Ansbro pitched the complete game, striking out nine, and allowing just seven hits. Katelyn Poston had a home run, and Mariyah Viar went 2-for-4 and scored two runs to lead Central's offense.
In the victory over Millbrook, Sydney Plum threw a five-hitter, striking out eight for the Falcons (4-5). The game only went five innings due to the mercy rule. The Falcons had only four hits in the win, but made the most of them. Poston had a single and two RBIs, and Mary Wakeman had a triple and scored two runs to lead the Falcons. Ansbro had a single and scored two runs, and Morgan Davis had a single.
Harry Combs Classic
WOODSTOCK -- Central fell short in the final of the Harry Combs Classic on Saturday, falling to Broadway 11-3. Central rallied from an eight-run deficit to beat Curwensville (Pa.), 11-10, in the semifinals.
In the final, the Falcons led 3-1 after two innings. However, Broadway scored six runs in the bottom of the third and didn't look back. Cody Sager went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, and Nicholas Waldron went 1-for-3 for the Falcons (7-2). John Plunkett was 1-for-2 with an RBI for Central.
In the semifinal, the Falcons trailed 9-1 entering the bottom of the third inning. Central responded with a seven-run third, and scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win it.
Hayden Bauserman went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Eric Semones was 1for-3 with two RBIs for the Falcons.
