BERRYVILLE -- Central held the lead for much of Friday's Bull Run District boys soccer match with host Clarke County, but the Eagles struck for a goal late in regulation and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Falcons senior Stephen Hamrick put Central on the board first, as he scored on an assist by Nathan Wallace-Springer in the 14th minute.
Central (3-5-2, 2-4-2 Bull Run) then withstood a furious attack by Clarke County for most of the match before Eagles senior Davey Hardesty scored an unassisted goal with just 2:40 remaining in regulation.
Clarke County outshot the Falcons 32-9, according to Central coach Ted Poor, and Falcons keeper Eric Ventura had 23 saves.
Yellow Jackets 5, Hawks 4
WARRENTON -- Visiting Randolph-Macon Academy overcame four errors to pick up a 5-4 Delaney Athletic Conference baseball victory over Highland on Friday.
The Yellow Jackets (8-4, 7-1 DAC) managed just four hits against Highland starting pitcher J.P. Graham, but they were able to generate some runs via small ball. Senior Neil Dutton was 1-for-3 with three RBIs for R-MA, with two of Dutton's runs coming in on RBI groundouts. He also had an RBI double in the game.
Senior Andre Lake was 2-for-2 with a double, two stolen bases, two runs scored and an RBI, and junior Edwin Guyette was 1-for-2 with a triple and two runs scored for R-MA.
Dutton (2-2) came in to pitch the final 4 1/3 innings for the Yellow Jackets to get the win. He gave up an unearned run on two hits while striking out four and walking three.
Stonewall Jackson 9, Buffalo Gap 4
QUICKSBURG -- Stonewall Jackson's Colton Harlow stuck out 11 batters in a complete-game effort as the Generals topped Buffalo Gap 9-4 on Friday in Shenandoah District baseball action.
Bradley Henschel was 1-for-3 with two RBIs to lead Stonewall Jackson (4-9, 2-6 Shenandoah District).
Clarke County 11, Central 5
WOODSTOCK -- Host Central rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it wasn't nearly enough in an 11-5 Bull Run Softball District loss to Clarke County on Friday.
Katelin Kline was 2-for-3 and scored a run for the Falcons. Also for Central, Mary Wakeman went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and Mariyah Viar was 2-for-3 and scored a run.
