STEPHENS CITY -- Host Sherando used a balanced offensive attack to beat Skyline, 8-0, on Thursday in Northwestern District girls soccer action.
Five different Warriors (4-3, 2-1 Northwestern) scored goals in the match, and Sherando outshot the Hawks, 22-0. Sophomore Audra Sites led the Warriors' attack as she scored three goals to go with one assist. Tori Dean added two goals, and Amanda Fogarty, Lauren Reed and Annabelle Racey eached chipped in a goal for Sherando.
Fogarty and sophomore Erin Magalis each had two assists to lead the Warriors.
Patriots 2, Flames 1
STEPHENS CITY -- Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy rallied from an early deficit to beat visiting Shalom Christian Academy (Pa.) 2-1 on Thursday in girls soccer action.
Shalom struck quickly with a goal in the eighth minute, but the Patriots (13-0) evened the score late in the first half when Jessica Crowley scored a goal in the 34th minute on an assist by Grace Snyder.
SVCA took the lead in the 67th minute when junior Maddie Deason scored a goal on a Crowley assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Phaneuf had seven saves for the Patriots.
Sherando 11, Skyline 1, 5 innings
STEPHENS CITY -- John Bentley struck out 12 batters in a complete-game, five-inning effort against Northwestern District rival Skyline on Thursday.
Bentley allowed only three hits and no walks in improving his pitching record to 4-0.
Reid Entsminger was 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs to lead Sherando (11-0, 7-0 Northwestern). Jeb Brown was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Taylor Loudan was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, and Bentley was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Warriors.
Chaz Rutherford started and took the loss Skyline (7-5, 2-3 Northwestern).
