Prep roundup: Patriots finish third in tourney

STANARDSVILLE -- Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy finished third in the United Christian Academy baseball tournament on Saturday. The Patriots lost 13-4 in the semifinals to Faith Christian. They then defeated Day Spring Christian, 5-4, in the third-place game.

In the loss to Faith Christian, the Patriots committed seven errors. Mike Powell went 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Tyler Fincham went 1-for-3 with a run scored for SVCA. Cody Robertson also went 1-for-3 for the Patriots.

In the second game, the Patriots rallied to take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth. After Day Spring Christian tied the game in the top of the fifth, the Patriots responded with the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Powell went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two steals, and Jacob Heflin went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Patriots. Samantha Yarnall started the rally in the bottom of the sixth with a hit for the Patriots (5-5).
Powell and Heflin were each named to the all-tournament team.
