Prep roundup: Reed sparks Warriors past Colonels in OT

STEPHENS CITY -- Sherando freshman Lauren Reed scored the game-winning goal in the first overtime period to help give the Warriors a 3-2 win over James Wood in Northwestern District girls soccer action Thursday night.

The game was tied 0-0 at the half. James Wood took leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but the Warriors battled back each time.

"It was good for our young group to be able to bounce back and get the 'W'," Sherando coach Rob Kilmer said.

Tori Dean had two goals, and Reed had an assist to go with her game-winning goal for the Warriors (3-2, 1-0 Northwestern). Audra Sites and Mandy Fogarty each had an assist for the Warriors, who outshot the Colonels 10-8. Maribeth Watkins had six saves for the Warriors.

STEPHENS CITY --Hannah McGann had a hat trick to lead the Patriots past the Cougars in non-conference girls soccer action.

The Patriots led 1-0 at halftime, but exploded for six goals in the second half. Jessica Crowley had two goals, and Megan Norton had a goal and three assists for the Patriots (9-0, 1-0). Maddie Deason had a goal, and Kayla Freemire and Grace Snider had an assist each for SVCA. The Patriots outshot the Cougars, 26-1.

WOODSTOCK -- The Yellow Jackets erupted for eight runs in the first en route to a non-conference win over the Colonels. The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Thomas Abell went 3-for-4, and Andre Lake was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Yellow Jackets (4-3, 3-0 DAC). Travis Pullen threw a two-hitter, and also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for R-MA.

Sherando 8, James Wood 0
WINCHESTER -- Courtney Reid threw a complete game four-hitter to lead the Warriors past the Colonels in Northwestern District action.

Reid struck out five, and also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Warriors (6-3, 4-1 Northwestern). Cierra Lewis went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Katie Seymour was 2-for-4 with an RBI double for Sherando.
