WINCHESTER - Visiting Randolph-Macon prevented Shenandoah University from clinching an ODAC Tournament berth by sweeping a softball doubleheader from the Hornets Thursday afternoon.
Macon (32-6, 14-4 ODAC) was a 4-0 winner in the opener before rallying for an 8-2 win over the Hornets (20-16, 8-10) in the nightcap.
Heather Lewis (18-3) held SU to five hits in the opener and allowed just one runner, Denise Mitchell, to reach scoring position.
Mitchell reached second with a one-out single followed by a Brittany Guepe infield single in the third, but Madison Bradley struck out looking and Morgan Coble fouled out to the catcher to leave both women stranded.
Lewis struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Stephanie Cameron (13-5) took the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks in 4.0 innings of work. She turned it over to Jordan Wolford to start the fifth.
The Hornets scored one run in the first and another in the third to take a 2-0 lead in the nightcap only to see the Yellow Jackets rally with three runs in the fourth.
Kimberly Brady had an RBI triple in the first with Mitchell doing the same in the third.
Macon took advantage of an SU error to score two unearned runs in the fourth with Michalann Camp putting the visitors on top to stay with a two-run double to left.
The 'Jackets then pulled away with one run in the fifth and four in the seventh.
Guepe paced the hosts with two hits.
Freshman Megan Tripp (7-6) allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits in five innings.
Kristen Dize (12-3) threw a complete game in earning the win. She allowed the two runs on five hits and did not walk a batter.
Shenandoah hosts Guilford on Saturday at 2 p.m. in another ODAC doubleheader. Seniors Amanda Litwin, Lauren McCabe, Denise Mitchell and Jordan Wolford will be honored between games one and two.
