EMU's Thorne garners VaSID all-state honors
Daily Staff Report - email@example.com
Eastern Mennnonite University men's basketball senior Andrew Thorne, a Skyline High School graduate, has added one more award to his career, as he was named to the VaSID All-State Second Team.
Thorne, who late in his final season became the 20th Royal in program history to score 1,000 points, was one of just 10 basketball players from Virginia to be named to an All-State team.
The 6-4 wing averaged team highs of 15.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in 2012-13. Thorne shot 51.7 percent from the floor and scored in double figures in 22 of EMU's 27 games. He knocked down a career high 30 points on 11-of-14 shooting against NCAA Sweet 16 team Randolph-Macon on Dec. 8.
In the powerful Old Dominion Athletic Conference, Thorne was fifth in scoring and ninth in rebounding, including being the best offensive rebounder.
Thorne finished his career at Eastern Mennonite with 1,053 points and 527 rebounds. He was also named All-ODAC Second Team at the conclusion of the regular season.
The Runnin Royals lost to eventual ODAC champion Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC Tournament and finished with a record of 15-12.
