RICHMOND -- After helping lead their team to a sweep of Georgia State during the final weekend of Colonial Athletic Association play, James Madison sophomore utility player Sarah Mooney and freshman catcher Erica Field were named the CAA Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Monday.
Mooney earned CAA Player of the Week honors for the fourth time this season and the fifth time in her career after hitting .545 (6-for-11) with three home runs over the weekend.
The sophomore added six runs, six RBIs, and a stolen base while recording a perfect fielding position at first and third base in the three-game set. Mooney homered in each of the three games, helping her to break the school's single-season home run record with 15. She also scored at least one run and picked up two RBIs in each of her performances.
Field claimed CAA Rookie of the Week for the first time, adding it to her CAA Player of the Week selection from Feb. 26. She hit .500 (4-for-8) with two doubles in three starts. Field added three RBIs, two runs and a sacrifice fly. In JMU's 5-4 win over GSU in the second game of the doubleheader on Friday, the rookie went 2-for-3 with two doubles and scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Hofstra's Olivia Galati claimed Pitcher of the Week accolades for the fifth time this season to join Mooney and Field as the weekly award winners.
The Dukes travel to Hempstead, N.Y., for the 2013 CAA Championship. They take on third-seeded Delaware in the opening round of the tournament at 5 p.m., on Wednesday at the Hofstra Softball Stadium.
